Symbio

SYMBIO is an air purification installation that uses moss to fulfill its function. The process of cleaning air itself is an invisible one. To visualize this process, the transparent membranes were added that beauti- fully bring to life this breathing motion. Research has shown that people experience relaxation by observing such breathing patterns. SYMBIO provides students with freshly cleaned air with every breath it takes. The module consists of three inflated cells. They are connected via a network, forming a dynamic web of living creatures. Each one has their own characteristic breathing pattern with which they breathe calmly and kindly, inviting users to wander through this forest of interconnectedness. The more users in the space, the quicker SYMBIO breathes. After every exhale a mist is spread through the membrane to humidify the moss.
