The Drawn Tales
With The Drawn Tales, visitors become part of the story. Instead of imagining images privately, they can express them live for others to see and interpret.
On the left page, simple story prompts are shown, such as “Walking through a dark forest” or “You hear a noise behind you.”
When someone steps in front of the book, they see a live representation of their shadow. Once they are ready, they can use a handheld button to capture the image. The captured scene is then added to the story on the opposite page.
The story unfolds through the contributions of previous visitors. The installation becomes a shared space for creativity and interaction, bringing together people who might otherwise never interact.

The first time we created a larger scale prototype of our conceptwe only used a projector to create the shadows and a PowerPoint presentation to display the previous ones.
We wanted to further develop the storytelling aspect. On the right side, you can act out a story, and on the left side, you can see your story take form.

We added a Kinect to the prototype capture depth so we could construct the shadows. To handle the projection mapping we use Touchdesingers inbuilt katanMapper.
We continued developing the open book concept and upgraded to a better projector so that your shadow would not appear twice.
We learned that people need a bit more guidance to create the frames. Therefore, we introduced prompts, and users add a picture to each prompt by using a handheld button.
